How I chose For Ever's names: Ever

Names are really important. In a lot of ways they shape who we are. You can love your name, hate it, change it -- but it's meaningful any way you look at it. I found the names for the characters through tireless searching or total luck.

Ever first ...

Ever: Ever Casey was the toughest. I wanted a name that lent itself to the mystery that surrounds him. I wanted something a little unusual, one that kind of makes you go, "Huh?" I looked for names that meant eternal, forever, immortal, everlasting -- and I came up with nothing. Then I remembered that Ever chose his name. He wasn't born. He emerged into this world, and the name he has now is a bit of an inside joke to him. Ever (as in forever) and Casey (which in a few cases refers to "dark," which is how I think he perceives the world, and also "vigilant, watchful"). Those two names just clicked for me. Originally, I had a slightly different last name, but as I started writing, there was just something wrong about it. It was also a "C" name, but it became a mouthful. (I won't say what it was so I don't ruin it for anyone!)

Back with more later!

  1. That's so awesome! I agree with you with naming characters. Sometimes it's hard to find the right one but eventually your lucky or later on you realize it's too much and you change it. I've gone through both so I know how it feels :]

  2. Hey, Hillary! Yep, naming characters is tricky. It takes a bit of work (and luck) to land on the "one" that's right for your character. Now, get ready for For Ever! (I'll send you a note as soon as I know when your signed copy will get to you!) CJ
